Living Wage Policy

Living Wage Policy

A living wage must cover a decent standard of living for workers and their families, this includes food, water, housing, education, health care, transportation, clothing, and other essential needs, and providing enough for unexpected, urgent, events.

The United Nations and its International Labour Organization (ILO) have declared living wages a basic Human Right.

We’re aware that the technology industries, in particular, have terrible records on workers’ rights and this was a key issue that inspired our founder, Vipul, to rethink our business practices and ideology. Most people think of their shiny or sparkly gadgets as ‘clean’ but the truth is too often grim, to the extreme, most factory workers do not earn a living wage and are forced to make daily sacrifices just to cover their basic needs.

Spaice, as a new company, has very limited clout, but as we grow our power will increase – that is a fundamental part of the Spaice model. With your support we can act as a force for conscience and increase pressure on manufacturers to treat everyone with respect and dignity. Beyond just ensuring that workers in their factories are paid according to the law, they must be paid enough to live a safe and secure life.

Spaice is accredited with the UK’s Living Wage Foundation guaranteeing that we will, at a minimum, pay our staff and contractors a fair wage.

The real Living Wage remains the only UK Wage rate calculated on the real cost of living. It allows workers to live with dignity and security to cover their basic needs like the weekly shop, energy bills, or a surprise trip to the dentist.

Spaice, along with over 16,000 organizations in the UK, recognize that our Government consistently fails many of its citizens with a national minimum wage that is woefully inadequate and pushes people into poverty even when they have full time work. Despite the cynical rebranding in 2016 to a “National Living Wage”.
