Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery Statement
Spaice is committed to combatting slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chains, and we make this statement to assist with compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
As our business has a turnover of less than £36 million, we do not have a legal obligation to produce a modern slavery statement. However:
- Exploitation is never acceptable, and we do our utmost to help eliminate it in our supply chains.
- We understand that customers with obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 cannot comply with those duties without our cooperation.
To that end, we confirm that we have examined our own business and, to the extent that it is reasonably practicable, businesses within our supply chain and we confirm the following:
- We confirm that within our own business, no relevant offence relating to slavery or human tracking has been committed.
- Our suppliers have all committed to eliminating modern slavery from their own supply chains.
- We are aware that there are questions raised about some of our suppliers, and we believe that the best way to affect change is with transparency on the concerns, applying pressure from all their end users. Our manufacturer ratings, provided by the Ethical Consumer Research Association, seek to do this by making these concerns visible to all our users.
Our business is an online retailer, currently operating in the United Kingdom, and source products from UK distributors for resale to the public and businesses. The products we sell originate from across the world and many have complex supply chains that have been identified as being particularly susceptible to exploitation of workers.
We understand that certain industry sectors and geographical regions entail greater risk of exploitation than others. We do believe that our supply chain is in one of those sectors.
This opaque and unacceptable abuse in product supply chains is one of the reasons that Spaice was formed – to inform the public of the issues and offer transparency on more responsible manufacturers they can turn to.
Where it is reasonably practicable, we ensure that businesses in our supply chain have made a similar statement relating to slavery and human trafficking.
Moreover, we, through our expert partners ECRA, actively monitor our suppliers for potential transgressions. Of particular note are their monitoring of workers rights and conflict minerals (under the heading Technology additional categories): Our Ethical Ratings | Ethical Consumer
We also encourage all employees to report on any matters relating to slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains of which they become aware.
